The most familiar space is our sanctuary, where we worship on Sunday mornings. The stained glass windows along the sides relate the story of Jesus’ life. The windows in front, behind the altar, include the depiction of Job, Abraham and the sacrifice of Isaac, and the raising of Lazarus from the dead. The window over the doors is Christ the King. These windows help us to reflect on the life of Jesus and the his proclamation “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”
Our chapel was completed in 2016. The reredos (wall behind the altar), the altar and other appointments were moved from the original chapel. The flexible seating and the recent addition of a baby grand piano allows us to use the space for funeral visitations, small worship services, Taize prayer, and so on. The chapel can also hold our canvas labyrinth. You are welcome to use this space for private prayer at any time during office hours, or by arrangement.
As part of our Contemplative Prayer series during Lent this year, one of our classrooms has been converted to a Prayer Room. By painting the walls, and using existing furniture and an altar, a small space for personal devotions was created. You are welcome to use this space for private prayer at any time during office hours, or by arrangement. This is where the Contemplative Prayer Group meets on Thursday evenings.
When the church building was renovated in 2016, the courtyard garden was relocated to the north of the building. Four seats surround the statue of St. Anne and Mary, with plantings in the four corners. Memorial bricks surround the statue (and are still available to memorialize loved ones). This is a quiet outside space for meditation and prayer, and is available to the community for rest and reflection.
In 2022, Susan Laird donated the funds to construct a labyrinth adjacent to the Memorial Garden. A walkway provides easy access from Libal Street, and invites the community to use the labyrinth for reflection. Labyrinths offer a form of walking meditation or prayer. There is no set ritual, but guides are available.
In 2023, Cindy and Steve Smith donated the funds to construct a Memory Garden on the north side of the church building, with walkways from the Memorial Garden to the Gazebo. This Garden in is memory of their daughter, Mackenzie.
